Completed Survey and Assessment Projects of the TMDL Program

A list of completed projects to collect and assess data to support use attainability analyses or to determine whether a TMDL is the most appropriate strategy for improving water quality in a 303(d)-listed waterway.

Communities Working Together

The TMDL Program works to restore Texas waterways that have limited quality in relation to one or more of their assigned uses, such as recreation, fishing, or healthy aquatic environment.

Arroyo Colorado: Surveying Recreational Uses This is a completed project to evaluate recreational uses of the Arroyo Colorado.
Arroyo Colorado: Watershed Protection Plan This is a completed planning and assessment project to improve water quality in the Arroyo Colorado.
Atascosa River This is a completed assessment project to evaluate concentrations of dissolved oxygen and bacteria in the Atascosa River in South Central Texas, and how they affect aquatic life and recreational uses.
Brandy Branch Reservoir This is a completed project of the TMDL Program to assess the extent of contamination in fish tissue in Brandy Branch Reservoir.
Clear Fork Trinity River This is a completed project that aimed to evaluate the attainability of the presumed aquatic life use for the Clear Fork of the Trinity River.
Dickinson Bayou: Conditions for Aquatic Life This completed project assessed whether dissolved oxygen conditions in the Dickinson Bayou were sufficient to support fish and other aquatic life.
Elm and Sandies Creeks This is a completed project that evaluated high bacteria and low dissolved oxygen concentrations in Elm and Sandies creeks in south central Texas.
Galveston Bay System This is a completed project that assessed the distribution of dioxin and PCBs in the Galveston Bay system.
Grace Creek This is a completed project that monitored bacteria concentrations in portions of Grace Creek and the Sabine River in Longview.
Gulf Coastal Waters: Oyster Harvesting This is a completed project that evaluated the safety of oyster harvesting in fourteen bays in Gulf Coast waters.
Houston Ship Channel and Galveston Bay: PCBs This completed project assessed sources of contamination in fish from polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). It evaluated whether TMDLs are the best option to reduce PCBs so it is safer to eat fish from area waterways.
Houston Ship Channel and Galveston Bay: Dioxin This is a completed project that assessed sources of contamination in fish from dioxin and evaluated whether TMDLs were the best option for reducing them.

Lavaca Bay and Chocolate Bay This completed project assessed support of aquatic life use in Lavaca Bay and Chocolate Bay.
Lower Leon Creek: Aquatic Life This completed project collected dissolved oxygen samples in Lower Leon Creek and added to the data available for evaluating the aquatic life use.
Lower Leon Creek: Bacteria This completed project assessed the extent of bacteria impairments in Lower Leon Creek.
Lower Leon Creek: Fish Project This completed project assessed high PCB concentrations in fish tissue in Lower Leon Creek.
