PIP Minerals

This former drilling-mud mixing operation in Liberty County was remediated under the state Superfund program. No further Superfund environmental response actions are required.

Site Summary

PIP Minerals operated this approximately 2.3-acre facility at 3303 Beaumont Avenue in Liberty, Liberty County. The company mixed drilling mud and stored drilling mud additives and drilling chemicals at the site from 1982-1985.

When PIP Minerals abandoned the site, they left 6 tanks of diesel fuel and drilling fluids and approximately 60 drums of sodium bichromate and other materials.

Superfund Registry and Cleanup

The TCEQ proposed the site to the state Superfund registry in October 1987. The potentially responsible parties (PRPs) removed all wastes, drums, and tanks from the site and disposed of them at an offsite permitted landfill.

In 1996 the PRP’s investigative study and baseline risk assessment indicated that the site was suitable for residential use because it no longer presented an imminent or substantial endangerment to public health and safety or the environment.  The site was deleted from the registry that year.

Current Status

No further Superfund environmental response actions are required.
