Waste Designation Decision Matrix - Acute Hazardous Wastes

This page is the waste designation decision matrix provided by the Small Business and Local Government Assistance program to aid businesses in deciding how certain wastes must be handled.

"Acute hazardous wastes" are considered especially harmful even in small quantities. Examples are cyanides, pesticides, and other strong toxins. Most businesses rarely generate acutely hazardous wastes, but if you do, please note:

Any generation greater than one kilogram (2.2 lbs) in a calendar month subjects you to being classified as a Large Quantity Generator.
